Overview
Motivation
SMORE is a tool to facilitate the creation of semantic markup, specifically OWL, based on HTML and text documents. SMORE provides a graphical interface to create classes, properties, and individuals, and make assertions about them.
Features
- OWL-Centered: While previous versions of SMORE were RDF-based tools, the new SMORE is designed for the easy creation of OWL ontologies from web page information. SMORE can import multiple existing ontologies into the created ontology.
- Simple Creation of OWL Entities: Use Drag-and-Drop to create OWL Classes, Properties and Individuals. Or, highlight a term and right-click to bring up a menu with all of the corresponding options.
- Triple-Based OWL Editing: For users familiar with creating triples, the new SMORE preserves the ability to work with OWL entities and data values in a triple format.
- Smart Individual Editor: The Individual Editor uses Domain and Range restrictions to present a list of eligible targets for all object property links from an Individual. For datatype properties, SMORE provides an appropriate editor for each built-in datatype.
- Familiar SWOOP Browser: SMORE integrates the SWOOP ontology browser, providing a clear and consistent way to find and view Classes and Properties, complete with search functionality.
- Error Highlighting and Prevention: SMORE identifies and highlights invalid triples in the triple table, preventing the underlying ontology from becoming invalid, and helping the user correct errors.
- Built-In HTML Editor: SMORE incorporates the Ekit HTML editor, allowing the user to edit HTML documents as they are being marked up.
Future Plans
- Multimedia Support: Possible integration of photo-markup ability into SMORE itself, or interaction with the PhotoStuff tool.
- Error Feedback: Informative feedback about the kinds of errors contained in a given triple. Greater utilization of the reasoner to alert the user to violations of cardinality and other restrictions.
