Web Science Research Initiative

by James Hendler

It’s now official, MIT and Southampton have announced the formation of a “Web Science Research Initiative” to try to enhance research in Web-related areas (with Semantic Web clearly up there on the list).  The paper in Science back in August outlined the goals of Web Science (that paper is now available for free via the WSRI Web Site publications page).  Lots of stories on the Press Announcement made about this today (my suggestion - go to Google news for “web science”) - Congrats to Tim BL, Wendy Hall, Nigel Shadbolt and Danny Weitzner who are the Directors of the initiative.  Plans to extend to other schools and to bring various scientific collaborators into the initiative are apparently underway.
